Q: What can I do for the corona test?

A: Alo 184" line, which you may consult for this matter, has been installed. A corona test is carried out at Haseki Hospital, Istanbul Training and Research Hospital (İstanbul Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi), Kartal Lütfi Kırdar and Bakırköy Sadi Konuk Hospitals in Istanbul.

 Q: I am an İTÜ employee with a disability status. Do I need to get a permit from the Rectorate in order to be considered for administrative leave in accordance with the Presidential Decree regarding the coronavirus outbreak?

A: The announcement made by YÖK defines the cases that the staff can be considered for administrative leave, annual leave or compassionate leave within the scope of coronavirus measures. It is decided that, “Those who are 60 years of age and above, pregnant, on legal breast-feeding leave, disabled employees, disadvantaged groups determined by the Ministry of Health (those with immune problems, cancer patients, chronic respiratory patients, obesity and diabetes, cardiovascular patients, organ transplant patients, chronic patients) will be on leave for twelve days starting from 16 March 2020.

As you fall into this category, you can be deemed to have administrative leave within your disability report in our institution. You also do not need to transmit documents or take any action. Please do inform your Faculty Secretariat/Institute Directorate with a written note.

 Q: What are the diseases that the staff will be considered for administrative leave?

A: The announcement made by YÖK defines the cases that the staff can be considered for administrative leave, annual leave or compassionate leave within the scope of coronavirus measures. Accordingly, amongst the academic and administrative staff working in Higher Education institutions, except the Rector, Vice Rector, Dean, Institute, School, Conservatory, Vocational School and independent Foundation Vocational School directors, pregnant, on legal breast-feeding leave, disabled employees, disadvantaged groups determined by the Ministry of Health (those with immune problems, cancer patients, chronic respiratory patients, obesity and diabetes, cardiovascular patients, organ transplant patients, chronic patients) shall be deemed to have twelve days of administrative leave starting from 16 March 2020. The annual leave demands of female academic and administrative staff with children in preschool and primary education shall be met and compassionate leaves for those who do not have the right to annual leave shall be used, and the annual leave demands of other academic and administrative staff shall be considered in accordance with the legal regulations.

Q: Will the ring shuttles continue?

A: In this process, only ring shuttles for on-campus housing will continue. Other shuttle services are temporarily suspended.

Q: Which facilities, such as; buildings, education areas, libraries are closed/open for use at İTÜ Campuses?
A:

  • Mustafa İnan Central Library and all faculty libraries
  • Indoor swimming pools

*These facilities are only for individual use and are closed for sports competitions and public use.

Q: Will ongoing internships of İTÜ students continue?

A: The active internships and insurances of our students are suspended except for the long term internships of students of Maritime Faculty. Therefore, it is not possible to start or continue the internship, except for the students of the Maritime Faculty doing long-term on-board internships. Q: Will the students who carry out master's thesis studies, laboratory studies and projects continue their laboratory studies?
A: The access of our undergraduate and graduate students to İTÜ Laboratories has been suspended. Only academic and administrative staff are allowed to access the laboratories for compulsory work.

Q: Within the scope of measures undertaken, is there a postponement for the Master's thesis defense juries?
A: It is considered appropriate to conduct postgraduate thesis defense exams online. Licensed software of Skype Enterprise, which can be used for online meeting, will be available on the İTÜ web homepage.

Q: Have there been any changes in the academic calendar regarding thesis submission period?
A: Thesis submissions have been postponed. Announcement of the new calendar will be made separately.

Q: Will there be visa exams between March 16, 2020 and April 6, 2020?
A: All courses and exams planned between March 16, 2020 and April 6, 2020 are canceled. You can follow the upcoming announcements via the official communications channels of our University.      

Q: What will be the status of students in the reserve list for İTÜ Dormitories between March 16, 2020 and April 6, 2020?
A: As of March 16, 2020, admissions to İTÜ Dormitories have been suspended until the next announcement (without any loss of queue in admitting students from reserve lists).

Q: What is the refund process for the students who has temporarily left the dormitories due to the break announced by the Higher Education Council (YÖK)?
A: Our university offers accommodation services to approximately 5000 students in 29 dormitories and 2 student guest houses. Our students staying at İTÜ Dormitories due to the pandemics, epidemics and similar situations considered as force majeure in dormitory services, will be charged for “only the time they use the dormitories” starting from March 16, 2020, as stated in the YÖK decision. It will be ensured that there will be no maltreatment. Within the scope of the measures taken, the fees paid by our students who will not go on staying in the dormitories for reasons such as graduation from the date of departure from the dormitories, will be divided into 30 days, and their  fees will be refunded.
 
Q: How will the arrival and departure of Erasmus students to/from abroad to Turkey be handled?
A: The recent announcement by the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, Directorate of Communications, regulates the arrival of the Erasmus students from abroad to Turkey. You can reach detailed statements via the links below.

Q: How will the applications for the Ph.D. qualifying (proficiency) exams be handled in this process?
A: Students who will take the Ph.D. qualifying exam by the end of 2019
- 2020 Spring Semester will be able to submit their applications until March 20, 2020, 17:00  via the E-FBE Information Management System (http://e.fbe.itu.edu.tr/phdStudent/YeterlikBasvuru.aspx).  
Applications submitted with a petition will not be accepted.

Q: I am a student, can I get information about the recent status of our parking subscriptions?
A: Your parking subscription has been suspended as of March 16, 2020. The remaining duration of your subscription will continue once the education on campus restarts.
