ITU Railway Transportation Safety and Security Application and Research Center has been established
ITU Railway Transportation Safety and Security Application and Research Center, whose regulation was published in the Official Gazette dated March 22, 2021, aims to develop projects on railway safety and security.

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Railway Transportation Safety and Security Application and Research Center has been established by the regulation published in the Official Gazette dated March 22, 2021. The center aims to develop projects on railway safety and security and to reflect technological developments in the area of railways directly to the field.
ITU Railway Transportation Safety and Security Application and Research Center aims to make national and international as well as interdisciplinary, theoretical and applied research in the fields of infrastructure, superstructure signaling, effect of meteorological and seismic events, railway traffic, railway system, environmental and occupational safety in order to ensure safe railway operations in our country. As a result of these studies, it is planned to always keep up-to-date and improve our country’s railway technology and moreover to carry out activities for the research results to reach decision-makers and end-users.
In addition to supporting, presenting and publishing scientific activities in the field of railway safety and security, the center aims to participate in national and international platforms on topics related to railway safety and security, to increase cooperation with relevant organizations or to make recommendations to decision-makers. Additionally, educating the interested persons from public institutions or the private sector and students about railway safety and its effects, organizing awareness-raising courses and scientific meetings, and enlightening the society with scientific data are some of the envisaged activities.
It is also aimed to follow studies conducted in our country and in the world and to create a database of these; to ensure sustainability in data and research; to become a focal point of relevant national and international organizations for project, research, planning, education and consultancy; to give information support to decision-makers, and thus, to increase Turkey’s applied research potential in this field.
The Regulation of ITU Railway Transportation Safety and Security Application and Research Center, whose first steps were taken with a cooperation protocol signed with Turkish State Railways Directorate General (TCDD) in November last year, entered into force by being published in the Official Gazette on March 22, 2021.
