DeepMind, the world leader in artificial intelligence research and applications, renews its scholarship program established for woman students who will start M.Sc. or Ph.D. in ITU Computer Engineering Program.
News: İTÜ Media and Communication Office
The scholarship program initiated in 2020 with the collaboration of ITU and DeepMind was established to provide financial support and mentoring by DeepMind researchers to ITU students. The scholarship program carried out with DeepMind has been renewed for 2021. Thus, graduate students who will start in the Fall 2021-2022 semester will also be able to benefit from this support.
DeepMind scholarships aim to support women researchers who want to pursue a full-time M.Sc. and Ph.D. and to increase diversity in the artificial intelligence field. In addition to financial support, the scholars will also be given the opportunity to attend the events organized by DeepMind and travel support to attend international conferences. This year’s applications will be open to foreign students as well in order to increase diversity.
“Talented students are our priority”
DeepMind scholarships will be given to woman students, a group that is underrepresented in computer sciences and artificial intelligence fields, who will start M.Sc. or Ph.D. in ITU Computer Engineering program.
ITU Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Research Center Deputy Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nazım Kemal Üre said, “We are very pleased about DeepMind’s decision to continue supporting us. This scholarship program will strengthen ITU’s leading position in artificial intelligence research in Turkey and enable raising the new generation of artificial intelligence researchers.”
Stating that thanks to the DeepMind scholarship program, they found the chance to support talented woman students, Üre said, “My interviews with the students showed that the mentoring support provided as part of the scholarship enlarged the students' vision and helped them immensely in making the necessary preparations for a research-oriented career. We are thankful to DeepMind for this scholarship program. We also look forward to meeting this year’s scholars.”
The applications for the scholarship program will be conducted by ITU Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Research Center. The details of the program for which the application deadline is June 25, 2021, can be accessed from here.
