Our Secretary-General Prof. Dr. İbrahim Demir Passed Away
We have lost ITU Civil Engineering 1982 graduate, ITU Department of Environmental Engineering faculty member, and our Secretary-General Prof. Dr. İbrahim Demir due to Covid-19.

Our esteemed professor Prof. Dr. Demir, who has worked hard for our university for many years, was receiving treatment at Istanbul Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital due to his positive Covid-19 test and his worsening health condition. Demir, whose treatment was continued in the intensive care unit, lost his life despite all efforts.
We would like to express our condolences to the family and relatives of our esteemed professor "İbrahim Abi", who has worked hard for our university for many years and raised many students, and the ITU Family.
Prof. Dr. İbrahim Demir
Prof. Dr. İbrahim Demir was born in Kahramanmaraş in 1959. He completed undergraduate and graduate studies at the Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University, respectively, and doctorate studies in the Environmental Engineering Department of Yıldız Technical University. After completing post-doctoral studies as a visiting researcher at Rutgers University for two years, Prof. Dr. Demir became an assistant professor in 1996, associate professor in 2007 and professor in 2018 at the İTÜ Environmental Engineering Department. Prof. Dr. Demir held many administrative positions including; the Head of the Department of Environmental Protection and Control of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the Director of the İTÜ Disaster Management Application and Research Center, the Deputy Director of the İTÜ Earthquake Engineering and Disaster Management Institute, and the Head of the Disaster and Emergency Management Department. Prof. Dr. Demir worked as an executive, researcher and consultant in many research and application projects supported by different institutions. He is married with three children.
