International Symposium on 250 Years of Engineering and Architecture in Turkey

Istanbul Technical University is preparing to celebrate its 250th anniversary in 2023 with a series of events. As part of the 250th anniversary celebration events, “International Symposium on 250 Years of Engineering and Architecture in Turkey” will be organized. The symposium, which is planned to be held face-to-face on 19-21 May 2022, will feature invited speakers who are experts in the historical process of engineering and architecture education.

The symposium to be held within ITU Rectorate aims to reveal, document and convey to the society the 250-year-long history of engineering and architecture in Turkey. Researchers are required to submit their papers until 31 December 2021 to the symposium, which aims to approach Turkish engineering and architecture with a comprehensive historical perspective.

Engineering education, which started in Turkey with the Mühendishane-i Bahr-i Hümâyun in 1773, also represents one of the most established schools in the world. With its strong tradition of nearly 250 years, ITU will aim better reception of our engineering and architectural tradition with the "International Symposium on 250 Years of Engineering and Architecture in Turkey", while emphasizing its success, impact and contributions on a global scale.

In the symposium, which draws a comprehensive line with both its subject headings and its touch on different fields in order to create a broad engineering and architectural panorama of Turkey from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic, there will be many topics ranging from the historical development of engineering and architecture to its ethics, from its education to its contributions to society, from important projects in Turkey and the world to engineering-architecture tools. In the panels to be attended by invited speakers who are experts in their fields, up-to-date information will be given on the development of engineering and architecture, their contributions to humanity and how they shape life.

It is a primary condition that the papers to be sent to the symposium, which is planned to be held face-to-face at ITU campuses on 19-21 May 2022, are original works. The application deadline is 31 December 2021. The papers will be evaluated by at least two reviewers. In addition, papers and presentations should be prepared in accordance with the symposium rules. The presentations are limited to 20 minutes and the language will be Turkish and English.
