The only Turkish university in the top 100 in GreenMetric
ITU is approaching its 250th year with academic achievements in global scale. In GreenMetric ranking performed in 2020, which evaluates the world’s prestigious universities in terms of green infrastructure and sustainability in the fields of infrastructure, energy, climate change, recycling, water resources, transportation, and education, ITU took the 71st place among 912 universities and became the only Turkish university in the top 100.
ITU always plays for the first place
Istanbul Technical University Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Şule Itır Satoğlu stated that they are in the first place in Turkey in the fields of engineering, chemistry, civil engineering, environment/ecology and earth sciences and in the third place in the general ranking in “World’s Best Universities” list prepared by US News & World Report, one of the major publications of the United States of America. Another important achievement of ITU is that it ranked in the first place in Turkey in a total of 10 fields in QS 2021 area based ranking... Continuing to achieve successful degrees among Turkish universities, ITU rised this year to 202nd place in the field of “engineering and technology” in the world ranking, which it entered at the 218th place last year. It ranked 2nd in Turkey in the same field.
Outstanding success in 7 fields
Pointing out that ITU ranked in the top 50 in the QS world ranking in mineral & mining and petroleum engineering areas and is the leader among technical universities in Turkey according to the ranking announced by University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP), Prof. Dr. Şule Itır Satoğlu said, “As a result of the field-based evaluation of three thousand universities worldwide, ITU showed outstanding success in seven fields including engineering, aerospace engineering, civil engineering, artificial intelligence, geology, earth sciences, and mechanical engineering.”
Accreditations for international equivalence
Accreditations such as ABET, NAAB, IMO, IFLA prove that the education received at ITU is at an international level. Satoğlu gave the following information about these accreditations: “With its 25 programs accredited by ABET, ITU proves that it provides education equivalent to the leading universities in the USA. ITU Department of Architecture stands out as the first department in Turkey to receive accreditation in architecture with its accreditation given by NAAB. NAAB ‘substantial equivalency’ certificate means that it is equivalent to the undergraduate and graduate architecture programs in the USA. IMO is a program which ensures that students who study at ITU Marine Sciences have international equivalence. IFLA accreditation is given only to ITU Landscape Engineering Department in Turkey. Since 2003, “International Dual Diploma Programs” have been carried out with leading contracted universities in the United States of America, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Azerbaijan. Students studying in these programs spend two years of their education at ITU and the other two years in the contracted university. When they graduate, they are entitled to receive diplomas from both universities.”
