ITU is the Choice of Highest-Ranking Students according to 2021 YKS Results
Turkey's first technical university ITU continues to be the first choice of students who are ranked highest according to the results of the 2021 Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS). Turkey’s first and third in numerical score preferred ITU Computer Engineering Department. 5 students from the top 100, 48 from the top 1000, 139 from the top 2000 and 231 from the top 3000 became ITU students. According to 2021 YKS results, there are 604 students whose first choice is ITU, 1129 students whose first two choices are ITU, and 1666 students whose first three choices are ITU.

It is noteworthy that 42 percent of the students who won ITU in 2021 set down ITU as their first three choices. The number of students entitled to study at ITU this year is 3,892. The top five most preferred departments in ITU are Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering, Economics, Industrial Engineering, and Electronics and Communication Engineering.
Stating that they have achieved a significant success by investing in the motto 'Show Your Difference with ITU' in the 2021 YKS preference period, ITU Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu said, “ITU has a total of 99 undergraduate programs in 14 faculties, of which 86 are undergraduate programs and 13 are International Dual Diploma Undergraduate Programs. The three departments with the highest employment rate are Mathematical Engineering with 87.18 percent, Computer Engineering with 80.82 percent, and Electronics and Communication Engineering with 79.34 percent... The faculty with the highest employment rate is the Faculty of Computer and Informatics with 79.75 percent... Noting that ITU has so far graduated important names from the world of business and politics such as Süleyman Demirel, Şarık Tara, Turgut Özal, Şekib Avdagiç, Nail Olpak, Zeynep Bodur Okyay, Erol Bilecik, İsmail Gülle, Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu made the following statement: “ITU is the university with the highest number of accreditations in Turkey... Accreditations such as ABET, NAAB, IMO, IFLA prove that the education to be received at ITU is at an international level. “An Interactive Communication Strategy Was Used”
Expressing that they used a highly interactive communication strategy during the preference period and that they conveyed exactly how the students who will choose ITU during the undergraduate period will create a change in their education life, Koyuncu commented, “Before the preference period, more than 2 thousand students received information by contacting our promotion office; thousands of students had the chance to learn about ITU by visiting our campuses. 1,164 prospective students who were out of the city participated in the department promotions via Zoom. During this period, we carried out a very intense communication work. We interviewed 28 ITU graduates and prepared 37 department promotion videos. We made 19 broadcasts, 17 of which were live, under the title 'My Preference is ITU' and reached 162 thousand views.”
“National and Global Achievements Play an Important Role in Choosing ITU”
Emphasizing that achievements not only in the national, but also in the global arena play an important role in the success of ITU, which is taking firm steps towards its 250th year, Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu continued as follows: “As a result of international evaluations such as GreenMetric, US News & World Report, QS 2021 field-based ranking, University Ranking By Academic Performance (URAP), the education vision of ITU, which is in the leading position among universities in Turkey, attracts attention in the global arena as well. Green Campus project of ITU, which stands out with its environment-oriented studies, ranked 71st in the list of 912 universities in 2020. ITU thus became the 37th greenest campus in Europe. ITU ranked first in Turkey in the fields of engineering, chemistry, civil engineering, environment/ecology and earth sciences, and third in the general ranking, in the 'World's Best Universities' ranking prepared by US News & World Report, one of the important publications of the United States. Another important achievement of ITU is that it ranked 1st in Turkey in a total of 10 fields in the QS 2021 field-based ranking...”
Investing in Entrepreneurship Culture
One of the most important topics where ITU makes a difference is promoting the culture of entrepreneurship… ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Ismail Koyuncu said, “We are carrying out important projects to enable students to develop creative and technology-based business models, and we are on the way to becoming a center with global recognition on entrepreneurship and innovation-oriented issues,” and stated that ITU Çekirdek Incubation Center is among the top five incubation centers in the world. Underlining that various opportunities such as open office, mini MBA/entrepreneurship training, technical infrastructure support, and laboratory use are offered to entrepreneurs who believe that they can turn their ideas into commercial activity, Koyuncu said, “One of the most successful examples of university-industry cooperation is ITUNOVA Technology Transfer Office… ITUNOVA Technology Transfer Office is a bridge that brings together the academic projects implemented at ITU with the industry.”
