ITU won the “Silver Medal” for the Second Time
Istanbul Technical University received the “Silver Medal” for Environmental Impact in Sustainable Development Goals for the second time in QS 2023 World University Rankings, as it was last year.

London-based higher education ranking agency QS announced its 2023 Sustainable Development Goals list. Istanbul Technical University (ITU) received the “Silver Medal” for the second time under the Environmental Impact in Sustainable Development Goals announced by QS and became the only university from Turkey to receive a silver medal.
What are the Sustainable Development Goals?
“Sustainable Development Goals” determined by the United Nations; include objectives set in critical areas, including poverty reduction, democratic governance and peacebuilding, climate change and disaster risk, and economic inequality worldwide. The UN supports governments in integrating the Sustainable Development Goals into their national development plans and policies with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), which was established to carry out seventeen goals. Operating as the development agency of the United Nations, UNDP carries out its activities in more than 170 countries and regions.
Evaluation criteria of QS under the title of 2023 Sustainable Development Goals Environmental Impact are as follows:
Total number of articles published between 2015-2019,
The total number of citations received by these articles in 2015-2020, excluding the citations made by the authors,
Number of articles published in the top 10 percent of academic resources defined by CiteScore Percentile,
Average Field-Weighted Citation Impact - AAAE (Field-Weighted Citation Impact - FWCI) per article, excluding self-citations by authors (compared to other articles in the same article type, same publication year, and same field)
The median of citations per article, minus the citations made by the authors
Median of AAAE per article, with citations omitted by authors,
Nearly 100 articles with citations and affiliations immeasurably above the global median value per Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) are classified according to these criteria.
After preparing the above data per institution according to the SDGs, the following inclusion criteria, indicator set, and adjustment methods were designed.
