Doctorate Graduation Ceremony was held at ITU

The Doctorate Graduation Ceremony for graduate students who obtained the title of "Doctor" in the 2021-2022 Academic Year of Istanbul Technical University (ITU) was held at the Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center with intense participation.

The 249th-year graduation ceremony of Istanbul Technical University, which is preparing to celebrate its 250th anniversary, was held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. Our graduate students, who were awarded the title of "doctor" by the decision of the Executive Board of the Institute between August 26, 2021, and June 22th, 2022, received their diplomas in a magnificent ceremony.

As well as ITU Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu, Vice-Rectors, Secretary-General, Deputy Secretaries-General, Deans, Institute Directors, academicians, doctoral graduates and their families; our Industrial Engineering 1981 graduate Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, the Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, participated in the ceremony.

ITU Doctorate Graduates were Sent their Academic Life

Introducing the ceremony where 253 doctoral graduates wore their robes, ITU Rector Prof. Dr.  Koyuncu emphasized the importance of being an ITU graduate and wished success to the new graduates in their academic life.

Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu addressed the students after thanking ITU Industrial Engineering 1981 graduate Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat for joining them:

"Dear friends...

You have worked hard and exerted great effort. As a result of these tedious studies, you have successfully graduated from doctoral programs. You have revealed yourself by receiving diplomas and writing theses, that is, wonderful jobs in an exploit of science.

Our greatest wish is that your valuable work will increase exponentially in the following periods. Because this odyssey of scientific exploit that you are involved in by putting out great efforts; is a virtuous journey as challenging as it is.

Al-Farabi, one of the most outstanding scientists of our civilization, says, 'Science is the chiefest of the virtues.' Thanks to what science brings us, we seek the beautiful and the good in every aspect of our lives. By this means, we do something good for the country and humankind.

As a family member, I can comfortably say that you have shown how decided and strong-willed you are. You are significant people who make critical decisions and have the know-how to carry them out with a firm belief. You came up with work in your field with patience and determination by going through this grueling road. I would like to commend each of you on your determination."

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, The Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, made a speech after Rector Koyuncu. Prof. Dr. Bolat mentioned Turkish Airlines' historical process, "We are seeing that the people are always from ITU who put a lot of work into Turkish Airlines and got it where it is today. ITU graduates have long served crucial roles in making Turkish Airlines a world-renowned brand and being awarded Best Airline in Europe. This success does not come by coincidence. I congratulate our 253 graduates who graduated and received their doctorate from a university with a history of 250 years that stands behind them.", he said.

After presenting a plaque by Rector Koyuncu to Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat in remembrance of the day and taking a group photo, the winners of the 2021 Best Doctoral Thesis Awards and Outstanding Doctoral Awards were invited to come up on stage.

Rector Koyuncu presented the plaques to our award-winning graduates and their advisors. Koyuncu gave graduation certificates to 253 graduates and took pictures with them.

The 249th Year Doctoral Graduation Ceremony ended after the cap throwing ceremony.
