Record Number of Viewers for “Be an ITU Student” Live Broadcasts

“Be an ITU Student” live broadcast series, in which our university was introduced to university candidates, was held online on six different social platforms between July 25 and August 3, 2022. The broadcasts, which attracted great interest from the candidates, reached nearly 200 thousand people.

Immediately after the announcement of the university entrance exam scores, a series of events were held at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) as every year within the scope of “Preference and Promotion Days”. During the events held at our Ayazağa Campus, university candidates received information from our academicians about the departments they are interested in, while they also had the chance to visit and see the faculties they want to enter. Meanwhile, the live broadcasts organized under the title “Become an ITU student” reached a large number of prospective students and a record number of viewers on our university’s social media channels. Through these live broadcasts, students had the opportunity to consult our expert academicians about their questions regarding the departments. 

In the live broadcasts carried out jointly by ITU Communications Directorate and Department of Information Technologies, 17 live broadcasts were made in two weeks over channels such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn. These broadcasts, which lasted a total of 7 hours and 53 minutes, reached 64 thousand viewers instantly and nearly 200 thousand viewers in total. The broadcasts, which were organized under various topics such as “Being a Student at ITU”, “Dormitory and Scholarship Opportunities at ITU” and “Weather at ITU”, were also featured on the TikTok platform for the first time this year.

The peak in engineering education

Describing the international opportunities at ITU, Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Durak Ata, our Vice-Rector responsible for international relations, stated that ITU is among the world’s leading universities in engineering education. Reminding that ITU is the university with the highest number of ABET accreditations in our country, Prof. Dr. Ata added that ITU is also a part of the EELISA program, which builds the concept of “European University”.

 In the live broadcast titled “ITU as a Research University”, Prof. Dr. Hacı Ali Mantar, ITU’s Vice-Rector responsible for research, talked about the privileges of being an ITU member in terms of research and expressed that ITU is considered by the Council of Higher Education (CoHE) as a university of priority in projects thanks to its infrastructure and portfolio, therefore receives more research funds than other universities. 

In the live broadcast titled “Being a Student at ITU”, our Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Şule Itır Satoğlu made the following assessment about the opportunities our university offers to its students: “University life is not only an area where we gain academic knowledge and profession, but it is also very valuable as a social environment. There are more than 250 student clubs and more than 50 project teams at ITU. Here, students can organize the activities they want and form teams.”
