Three Important Inventions from Our Faculty Members
The academics of ITU made important inventions. The inventions made by our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu, Prof. Dr. Levent Trabzon and Prof. Dr. Güneş Zeynep Karabulut Kurt and their teams received patent certificate and patent registration from the international United States Patent and Trademark Office.
News: İTÜ Media and Communication Office
Istanbul Technical University (ITU) continues its R&D activities. Our Rector and ITU Environmental Engineering Department faculty member Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu and his team; Mechanical Engineering Department faculty member Prof. Dr. Levent Trabzon and his team; Electronics and Communication Engineering Department faculty member Prof. Dr. Güneş Zeynep Karabulut Kurt and her team received patent certificate and patent registration from the international United States Patent and Trademark Office with the inventions they made.
Prof. Dr. Koyuncu gave the following information about their invention titled “Vacuum Enhanced Operation Method for Forward Osmosis Membrane Bioreactors”: “A method of operating osmotic membrane bioreactors (OMBRs) includes the steps of feeding the synthetic wastewater from wastewater tank to the reactor with the help of wastewater pump, and transferring of diluted draw solution through TuNFO membrane to the draw solution tank. The draw solution is diluted through passing of high flux water from the reactor into the membrane by means of osmotic force and vacuum force obtained by operating the vacuum pump at higher velocity than the force pump.”
Prof. Dr. Trabzon gave the following information about their invention titled “Microchannel Having a Spiral Geometry Structured with Asymmetrical Curls for Continuous Separation of Cancer Cells from Blood and Enrichment thereof in the Circulatory System”: “The invention concerns a microchannel having a spiral geometry structured with asymmetrical curls that enables separation of metastasis cancer cells rarely found in blood from the blood cells and enrichment thereof, which forces the particles or the cells to focus quicker and where high-quality particle focusing in a wider flow rate range can be performed.”
Prof. Dr. Kurt gave the following information about their invention titled “Combined Multi-source Energy Harvesting and Communication Management System”: “The invention concerns a combined multi-source energy harvesting and communication management system which enables to obtain high efficiency energy by means of the configuration among the energy control interface, the energy combiner, the energy storage and transfer unit, the memory, the energy management unit, and the communication management unit.”
We congratulate our faculty members and their teams.
