CoHE Outstanding Achievement Award to ITU’s Academicians

CoHE Outstanding Achievement Award given in the 2022-2023 Academic Year Opening Ceremony held in the Presidential Complex was given to all academicians of ITU.

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) continues to add new ones to its awards in its 250th academic year. Our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu, who attended the 2022-2023 Academic Year Opening Ceremony held in Beştepe on October 10 under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, received the CoHE Outstanding Achievement Award worthy of all academics of ITU from our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

At the ceremony attended by a delegation consisting of our Rector, Vice-Rectors, deans, academicians and students, our Rector commented on the awards received by ITU academicians and said, “I am very proud to represent such an established institution. We dedicate every award we receive to all ITU members who have contributed to our 250th anniversary efforts.”

Best PhD Thesis Award also to ITU

At the 2022-2023 Academic Year Opening Ceremony, the thesis of Aslı Ulubaş Hamurcu, who completed her PhD under the supervision of our Faculty of Architecture faculty member Prof. Dr. Fatih Terzi, was awarded the best PhD thesis of the year in the field of Fine Arts and Architecture.

Aslı Ulubaş Hamurcu, who received the award with her PhD thesis titled “Modeling Socio-spatial Change: Impact of Socio-technological Factors on Future Urban Space Configuration”, showed in her thesis that urban character of the Kadıköy historical city center is closely related with family type, income level and cultural diversity. Among these variables, cultural diversity is found as the key factor of change in urban space. Afterwards, she discussed changing character of everyday living and culture on the theoretical basis in relation with new information and communication technologies.
