Woman Scholar Award to Our Faculty Member in the Field of Immunology
ITU Faculty of Science and Letters, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayça Sayı Yazgan was awarded the “Işıl Berat Barlan Women Scholars” award given by the Turkish Society of Immunology under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Talal Chatila from Harvard Medical School.

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) continues to impress with the international achievements of its academicians in its 250th year. This year’s recipient of the Women Scholars Award, which is given to encourage important studies in the field of allergy and immunology and to keep alive the memory of the world-renowned scientist Işıl Berat Barlan, who passed away in 2015, is ITU Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayça Sayı Yazgan.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazgan’s award was presented at the 5th International Molecular Immunology and Immunogenetics Congress held in Izmir on October 20-22. Işıl Berat Barlan Awards, launched in 2016 with the support of the Turkish Society of Immunology under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Talal Chatila from Harvard Medical School, are given in three categories including Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases Research Award, Young Scientists Award and Women Scholars Award.
About Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayça Sayı Yazgan
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazgan conducts research on different topics such as the immune response in Helicobacter pylori bacterial infection, which is the causative agent of gastric ulcer, and its effect on cancer formation, the role of regulatory B cells in patients and healthy individuals. Yazgan, who has been involved in many national and international projects, continues her studies with doctoral and master’s students focusing on Molecular Immunology at ITU Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics.
