Honorary Doctorate to Our Faculty Member from Politehnica University of Bucharest
ITU Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering faculty member Prof. Dr. Gültekin Göller was awarded an honorary doctorate by Politehnica University of Bucharest on 23 November for his world-class work in the field of materials science and his contributions to inter-institutional collaborations.

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) continues to gain recognition in the international arena with the impact-oriented research and studies of its academicians. ITU Faculty of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering faculty member Prof. Dr. Gültekin Göller was awarded an honorary doctorate by Politehnica University of Bucharest for his world-renowned research in materials science and his contributions to the development of bilateral cooperation between higher education institutions.
The honorary doctorate ceremony for Prof. Dr. Göller was held at the Senate of Politehnica University of Bucharest on 23 November. The honorary doctorate awarded to our faculty member Göller, who is also included in the “career-long impact” category of the 2022 “Most Influential Scientists List” prepared by Stanford University and Elsevier, reflects the developing relations between Politehnica University of Bucharest, one of the oldest universities in Romania, and ITU, which is celebrating its 250th anniversary.
About Prof. Dr. Gültekin Göller
Prof. Dr. Göller received his B.Sc., M. Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from ITU Department of Metallurgical Engineering. He conducts studies in various fields including, but not limited to, ceramic and composite materials, modern ceramic armour systems, synthesis of high technology ceramic powders. Known for his impact-oriented research on an international scale, Prof. Dr. Göller is the founder of ITU’s laboratories working on biomaterials, composite materials, laser cutting and welding, and spark plasma sintering. Our faculty member was also elected as an international expert for the accreditation of doctoral programs by the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education in 2021.
