Solar Energy Excellence Hub SolarHub Meeting at ITU
ITU hosted an important international meeting on renewable energy. The kick-off meeting of “A Greek-Turkish Solar Energy Excellence Hub to Advance the European Green Deal” was held at Ayazağa Campus Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center on January 23.

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) hosts events focusing on sustainability as part of its vision to transform the future. Kick-off meeting of the SolarHub Project, which brought together many competent names from Türkiye and Europe within the scope of Horizon Europe, was held at ITU Ayazağa Campus, one of the greenest and most sustainable university campuses in the world.
SolarHub Project Kick-off Meeting was attended by TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, as well as ITU Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kumral and Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Durak Ata, officials from the European Union, Turkish and Greek ministries, project stakeholders and team members.
ITU Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Durak Ata made an opening speech. Prof. Dr. Ata pointed out that 2023, the 250th anniversary of ITU, is also the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye. She also reminded that 2023 was declared the “Year of Sustainability” for ITU. Prof. Dr. Ata expressed her hope that this meeting will strengthen the connections between Greek and Turkish solar energy innovation ecosystems within the framework of the European Green Deal.
SolarHub Project Kick-off Meeting continued with sessions throughout the day. Various topics ranging from project content to policies and strategies were discussed.
