Best Start-up Award to ITU Students

ITU teams won many awards at the Imagine Tomorrow International Entrepreneurship and Innovation Event, which was held for the fifth time between March 1-3, 2023.

Imagine Tomorrow International Entrepreneurship and Innovation Event was held for the fifth time between March 1-3, 2023 within the scope of EURIE 2023 Higher Education Summit. ITU student teams achieved great success in the international Imagine Tomorrow event, which was held at Lütfü Kırdar Convention and Exhibition Center on March 1-2, 2023 and attended by 60 entrepreneurial teams. The teams were evaluated by 38 jury members during the two-day event. The works of three ITU teams who had the opportunity to make presentations at this event were rewarded by the jury.

“Best Start-up”

ITU Maritime Faculty, Department of Maritime Transportation Engineering Master’s student Ömer Kara won the first place in the “Best Start-Up” category with BioClean Environmental Technologies Inc. he founded, together with his teammates Aybike Avcı (Özyeğin University Electrical and Electronics Engineering) and İlknur Toklu (Bees R&D Team Business Development Specialist). Our student’s team also received the Patent Application Support Award and the Digital Marketing Mentoring Award.

Third prize also went to ITU students

Kernel Dynamics company, founded by ITU Department of Aeronautical Engineering student Melih Biçer and Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering student Pelin Kaya, came in third. The team was awarded in two different areas.

BeeBattery company of Nihat Fatih Kayacıoğlu, graduate ITU Department of Chemistry undergraduate and postgraduate programs, Abdülaziz Ali, graduate of Mechanical Engineering, and Yahya Acar, graduate of Electrical Engineering and MasterBee program student in the same department, received the same award and were entitled  for Mentoring support.

Our award-winning students expressed their gratitude to our university and ITUNOVA TTO for their support. ITU students who won the first and third awards donated their prize money to earthquake victims.

Entrepreneurship culture coincides with ITU’s values

Ayşe Kandemir, a jury member from ITUNOVA TTO, attributed the reason why the names of entrepreneurs from ITU started to be heard frequently in the sector in recent years to the intersection of the entrepreneurship culture and ITU’s values, adding that this success is not accidental. She stated that as ITUNOVA TTO, they are always with students and academicians during the incorporation processes of their ideas and works.
