ITU, THY and Boeing Team Up for “Sustainability in Aviation”
Istanbul Technical University, Turkish Airlines and Boeing Turkey joined forces for a new platform to support the transition to sustainable aviation.

As Istanbul Technical University celebrates its 250th anniversary, it continues to play an active role in the field of sustainability through international collaborations. Istanbul Technical University, Turkish Airlines and Boeing Turkey came together for sustainable aviation at the opening event of the Türkiye Sustainable Aviation Platform. The opening event held on May 31, 2023 was attended by Boeing Turkey Managing Director Ayşem Sargın, Turkish Airlines Deputy General Manager Levent Konukçu, US Consul General in Istanbul Julie Eadeh and Istanbul Technical University Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Durak Ata.
ITU will act as a centre and bridge in cooperation
In her opening speech, our Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Durak Ata said, “Türkiye Sustainable Aviation Platform aims to accelerate ITU’s sustainability-oriented research and development projects. The work of the platform will contribute to the emergence of sustainability-related innovations in the aviation sector, thereby accelerating the sectoral transformation.”
100 per cent sustainable aviation goal by 2030
Türkiye Sustainable Aviation Platform aims to further the decarbonization journey and sustainability transformation of the Turkish aviation sector in the future with an interdisciplinary approach and cooperation, to facilitate collaborations and develop joint projects for sustainable aviation, and to increase knowledge and awareness in this field through training programs and social activities.
