ITU ZES SCT, which has won more than 20 awards from three continents with a total of 10 solar-powered electric cars and 2 autonomous cars it has produced to date, set its goal as the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge (BWSC) to be held in Australia between 22-29 October 2023, after the iLumen European Solar Challenge, where it completed the 24 hour stage in the third place.

In order to test ARIBA ZES XE before the race in Australia and to complete the BWSC 2023 race simulation, the 3,021 km ZES Central Anatolia Test, covering the provinces of Eskişehir, Konya and Aksaray on 10-16 July 2023, was carried out with a team of 23 students.

In the ZES Central Anatolia Test, ARIBA ZES XE received its energy only from the sun. No external energy was supplied. In this way, while emphasizing the importance of the use of solar energy in sustainable energy, a great experience was gained for BWSC 2023.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu commented on the Central Anatolia Test of our ARIBA ZES XE vehicle as follows: “Sustainability studies at ITU have become a part of our corporate identity in recent years. We are very happy to see this awareness in the work of our students as well. I hope that our Solar Car Team will achieve many more successes in the future.”

ITU ZES SCT, the first and only Turkish team to return in 2009 with the “The Best Newcomer” Award from the BWSC race, considered the world’s most challenging student competition with a 36-year history, aims to crown its success in Europe with BWSC 2023.
