As Istanbul Technical University celebrates its 250th anniversary, it continues to gain recognition with pioneering projects. Our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Suha Yazıcı is carrying out important studies on the conversion of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in the depths of the Black Sea into hydrogen by electrochemical methods with the H2SEA Project.

With the H2SEA Project, which is a joint work with Bulgaria, supported within the scope of TÜBİTAK Bilateral Cooperations, the electrochemical conversion of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in the depths of the Black Sea to hydrogen will be investigated. In this way, in addition to developing materials and continuous-flow electrolyzer system, economic and environmental impact of different hydrogen production approaches will be evaluated through technoeconomic analyzes.

With this project, hydrogen sulfide, which has started to be measured from 100-150 meters in the Black Sea and does not allow the life cycle and threatens the Black Sea ecosystem, will be converted into hydrogen with environmentalist approaches, and economic gains will be achieved for our country.
