ITU is in Bucharest for the EELISA International Conference
ITU academics participated in the "1st EELISA International Conference" held on October 5-6, 2023 with their presentations. At the meetings and ceremony organized simultaneously with the conference, signatures were put for the second phase of EELISA.

The EELISA International Conference, organized by the European Engineering Learning Innovation and Science Alliance (EELISA) for the first time this year in Bucharest, Romania, on 5-6 October 2023, brought together academics from universities around the world.
The conference, which aims to be an important meeting in the field of higher education throughout Europe, was attended by Özgür Kıvanç Altan, Ambassador of Türkiye to Bucharest; Prof. Dr. Halil Hasar, Director of Climate Change at the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change; our Rector and EELISA Governing Board Member Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu; ITU Vice-Rector and EELISA Executive Board Member Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Durak Ata; ITU EELISA Project Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emrah Acar; ITU EELISA-InnoCORE Project Coordinator Prof. Dr. Bersam Bolat; and Graduate School Director Prof. Dr. Ahmet Duran Şahin.
At the conference hosted by Polytechnic University of Bucharest (UNSTPB), Romania’s oldest engineering school, sessions including presentations by ITU academics and students were held. The program, attended by world academics who presented papers in 27 different sessions, also included exhibitions and film screenings.
Signatures were put for EELISA 2. phase
The EELISA Executive Board meeting was held simultaneously with and was an important part of the two-day conference, which brought together more than 300 participants in sessions on topics such as the new European engineer model, the university of the future, innovative pedagogies, entrepreneurship, innovation and building sustainable cooperation.
At the EELISA Governing Board meeting, which brought together national authorities and representatives of international organizations, the opportunities offered by global cooperation in the processes that shape the engineering of the future were emphasized. At the meeting, which was attended by the Özgür Kıvanç Altan, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Bucharest, and our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu, there was also a signing ceremony for the second phase of EELISA.

EELISA is the acronym for “European Engineering Learning Innovation and Science Alliance,” a European Universities Initiative, of which ITU is among the founding partners.
The vision of EELISA European University is to transform the European Higher Education area by creating a new model of engineering to generate smart and sustainable engineering solutions to current societal challenges and to provide the necessary technical and social competencies for future engineers.
As a European University Initiative of ten universities from eight countries, EELISA involves 195,000 students, 18,000 faculty members and 12,000 administrative staff. EELISA, which was established in 2019, was preparing to complete its institutionalization and transition to the second phase. With the document signed at this ceremony, it has officially entered the second phase.
