Award to e-ATAK, the Autonomous Bus of our Campus

The autonomous bus e-ATAK, developed through the cooperation of ITU, Karsan and ADASTEC, was awarded in the Digitally Enhanced Driving category of the Busworld Digital Awards.

The autonomous bus e-ATAK, one of the innovative technologies developed by Istanbul Technical University (ITU) through university-industry cooperation, won an award in Belgium with its advanced autonomous driving capability.

It became the winner of the Digitally Enhanced Driving category of the Busworld Digital Awards 2023, given at the Busworld 2023 fair held in Brussels on 7-12 October. The award was presented at the Digital Mobility Solutions Conference held as part of the fair in Brussels on 11 October.

Autonomous bus at the university of firsts

In the project implemented through the partnership of ITU, Karsan and ADASTEC, the first mass-produced Level 4 autonomous bus in the US and Europe started test drives as a ring service at our Ayazağa Campus at the beginning of the 2023-2024 academic year. ITU academics and students benefit from the e-ATAK bus as a training and R&D laboratory.

Level 4 is called high driving automation. Among the five autonomy levels, it is the level at which the driver can control the vehicle, but in most cases, all driving functions are performed autonomously by the vehicle.
