ITU is Türkiye’s Greenest Campus Once Again
Istanbul Technical University became “the World’s 46th Most Sustainable Campus” in the 2023 UI GreenMetric rankings. ITU Ayazağa Campus, which hosts a campus life that is at peace with nature and ecologically sensitive and ranks 26th among European universities, was named as Türkiye’s greenest and most sustainable campus this year, as it has been for the past six years.

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) became the world’s 46th greenest campus in the UI GreenMetric rankings, which evaluates university campuses in terms of energy, water conservation, waste recycling, transportation, and green areas. Ranking 26th among European universities, ITU has achieved a remarkable success as the greenest and sustainable university in Türkiye and the Middle East with the environmentally friendly living opportunities it offers to its students, staff, and academics.

ITU received the “Most Sustainable University in the Middle East” award at the “2023 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings Results and Awards” ceremony held at Abu Dhabi University in the capital of the United Arab Emirates on December 5, 2023.
ITU Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu, who attended the ceremony, made the following remarks in his speech after the award was presented to him: “This year, we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye and the 250th anniversary of Istanbul Technical University. Therefore, it is very valuable for us to receive such an award in 2023… As we move towards becoming a leading university in the field of engineering and architecture, we continue to raise our sustainability goals every year.”
