Honorary Doctorate to Prof. Dr. Ali Erdemir
Prof. Dr. Ali Erdemir, 1977 graduate of our Faculty of Chemical-Metallurgical Engineering, was awarded an honorary doctorate at a ceremony held at ITU Ayazağa Campus SDCC on March 13, 2024.

Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Chemical-Metallurgical Engineering 1977 graduate Prof. Dr. Ali Erdemir was awarded an honorary doctorate at a ceremony held at ITU Ayazağa Campus, Süleyman Demiral Cultural Center on March 13, 2024. At the opening of the ceremony, our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu emphasized the achievements of ITU members in the field of engineering with the important scientific projects they have implemented and the valuable contributions they have made to our country, and said the following:
ITU graduates, who have carried out valuable work in their fields and received international awards for their scientific activities that have global impact, are a source of both pride and inspiration for us. Today, we gathered here at the honorary doctorate ceremony of our esteemed professor, who has such an inspiring academic career.”
Cradle of Knowledge and Creativity: ITU
The honorary doctorate decision of the ITU Senate was announced as follows: “We are proud to present Prof. Dr. Ali Erdemir with an honorary doctorate in recognition of his world-class studies in the field of metallurgical and materials engineering, his contributions to the development of inter-institutional bilateral cooperation, and the support he has provided to our country and our university for education, research and development, and widespread impact.”
After the honorary doctorate certificate was presented to him by our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu, Prof. Dr. Erdemir made a speech titled “The Cradle of Knowledge and Creativity in Engineering Sciences: ITU.” Sharing his experience and memories concerning his academic journey in his speech, Prof. Dr. Erdemir expressed his pleasure with the words, “I have never severed my strong bond with ITU. I believe that this institution has a spirit that binds us together. ITU diploma is an honor to be carried for a lifetime and I am feeling this honor once again after many years.”
