Award from Italy to Seddülbahir Fortress Restoration
Seddülbahir Fortress Restoration, realized with the contributions of ITU, achieved international success as one of the 25 projects selected from among 167 projects at the International Domus Restoration and Conservation Awards.

The restoration project of Seddülbahir Fortress, one of the landmarks that keeps the historical memory of the Çanakkale Victory alive, realized with the contributions of Istanbul Technical University, achieved international success by being shortlisted from among the 167 projects evaluated in the “International Domus Restoration and Conservation Awards” organized by the Faculty of Architecture of Ferrara University, Italy.
The award ceremony held at Palazzo Tassoni Estense in Ferrara, Italy on March 19, 2024 was attended by Asst. Prof. Dr. Gülsün Tanyeli, member of the scientific advisory board of the restoration project and ITU Department of Architecture faculty member, on behalf of Istanbul Technical University. That the meticulous restoration of the historical fortress, where the first martyrs of the Çanakkale War died, was deemed worthy of an award on the 109th anniversary of the victory led to emotional moments.
Seddülbahir Fortress, which was built in the 17th century to defend the entrance to the Gallipoli Strait, had opened its doors to visitors last year after a restoration conducted between 2016-2023 following 17 years of research, documentation and project design activities realized under the coordination of Çanakkale Wars Gallipoli Historical Site Directorate with the contributions of Istanbul Technical University and Koç University.
