Prof. Dr. Metin Hayri Acar was Sent off on His Final Journey

Department of Chemistry faculty member Prof. Dr. Metin Hayri Acar, who passed away on 22 June 2024, was sent off on his final journey by his loved ones and students after a ceremony held at ITU SDCC.

Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Science and Letters faculty member Prof. Dr. Metin Hayri Acar passed away on 22 June 2024. Prof. Dr. Acar, who has made significant contributions to our country’s accumulation of the scientific knowledge with his scientific studies in the field of chemistry, was sent off on his final journey with a ceremony held at ITU Ayazağa Campus, Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center on 24 June 2024.

Speaking at the ceremony where the deceased was commemorated with the participation of his family, loved ones, students and colleagues, our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu emphasized the contributions of Prof. Dr. Acar’s research on polymer technology to the science of chemistry and said the following: “Metin Hayri Acar was a very valuable academic who broadened the horizons of many students with his meticulous scientific studies. I believe that our students who follow in his footsteps will always keep the memory of our professor alive by continuing the academic legacy they have inherited.”

Prof. Dr. Metin Hayri Acar was interred at Silivrikapı Cemetery after the funeral prayer at ITU Abdülhakim Sancak Mosque, following the ceremony.

About Prof. Dr. Metin Hayri Acar

Prof. Dr. Metin Hayri Acar, who graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Department of Chemical Engineering in 1981, worked as a technician at ITU for a while after his graduation and continued his master’s education in the same field. In 1984, he became a research assistant at ITU Faculty of Science and Letters. He completed his Ph.D. in 1989 and became an assistant professor in the same year. Prof. Dr. Acar, who received the title of associate professor in 1995 and full professor in 1999, conducted his studies mainly on polymer technology. He also became one of the members of the Polymer Science and Technology Association. Prof. Dr. Metin Hayri Acar, who has supervised more than 20 theses and published more than 30 scientific articles, served in administrative positions such as Advisor to the Rector, Deputy Head of the Chemistry Department, Deputy Director of the Advanced Technology Center and the Graduate School at Istanbul Technical University.
