ITU Ranks 1st in Türkiye in 21 Scientific Fields
According to the results of 2023-2024 world field rankings prepared by the URAP Research Laboratory to draw attention to universities' strengths and potential areas of progress, ITU became the university with the highest number of fields in Türkiye, with 27 fields ranked among 78 scientific fields. ITU ranked 1st among Turkish universities in 21 different scientific fields, including Engineering and Architecture.

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) continues to demonstrate its strengthening global impact with its successful academic ranking results. According to the 2023-2024 world field rankings by the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) Research Laboratory of METU Informatics Institute, ITU ranked first in Türkiye with 27 scientific fields in which it was listed.
ITU is in the top 60 in the world in Polymer Science
Our university ranked 783rd in the world in the overall ranking, 58th in the “Polymer Science” field, 136th in the “Water Resources” field, 181st in the “Architecture” field, 149th in the “Marine Sciences” field, 159th in the “Civil Engineering” field, 166th in the “Artificial Intelligence” field, 226th in the “Geology” field, 231st in the “Robotics and Intelligent Systems” field, 235th in the “Earth Sciences” field and 248th in the “Telecommunications” field.
ITU’s Leadership in Engineering, Architecture, Artificial Intelligence and Technology
ITU rose in 20 of 27 scientific fields compared to last year. ITU became the 1st university in Türkiye in 21 scientific fields. While our university ranked first in Türkiye in the fields of “Environmental Engineering”, “Agriculture”, “Archeology”, “Geology”, “Artificial Intelligence”, “Information and Computing Sciences”, “Civil Engineering”, “Marine Sciences and Technology”, “Electrical and Electronics Engineering”, “Materials Engineering”, “Water Resources”, “Mechanical Engineering”, “Chemical Engineering”, “Polymer Science”, “Engineering” “Robotics and Intelligent Systems”, “Earth Sciences”, “Environmental Sciences”, “Technology”, “Architecture” and “Telecommunications”, it ranked 2nd in the fields of “Chemical Sciences” and “Energy and Fuels”.
ITU had ranked 1st in Türkiye in 10 fields in the 2020-2021 period, in 18 fields in the 2021-2022 period, and in 20 fields in the 2022-2023 period in the world field rankings compiled by URAP.
About URAP field rankings
URAP field rankings use objective data provided by Clarivate Analytics InCites, one of the reliable sources of data on articles and citations. URAP field rankings provide an assessment of the academic performance of the last five years. The effect of the articles, total documents and citations of universities in the relevant field and international cooperation indicators are the main criteria used in the URAP field rankings. Articles with 1,000 or more authors are not taken into consideration in the URAP field rankings.
