“ITU 250th Anniversary Collection” Uncovers the Long-Established History of the Technical University

ITU, which is identified with engineering and architecture education as one of the longest-established technical universities in the world, transfers its two and a half centuries of institutional memory to future generations with the “ITU 250th Anniversary Collection”.

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) introduced the “ITU 250th Anniversary Collection”, which is the product of a meticulous effort that aims to keep its memory dynamic with the awareness of increasing its academic success on a global scale, to the public at a meeting held at the Ayazağa Campus on July 25.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Koyuncu explained the importance of the collection at the introductory meeting with the following words: “Our accumulation from the past will continue to enlighten us on our way to becoming the university of tomorrow. As a matter of fact, with the awareness of transferring this culture and history to future generations, we celebrated our 250th anniversary in 2023 and carried out many detailed works, from Memory Path to 250th Anniversary Documentaries, from ITU Museum to 250th Anniversary Interviews. We were aware of the importance of keeping alive the memory of our professors, chief instructors, directors and rectors who added value to ITU from past to present and made ITU what it is. The most important thing we wanted to emphasize during our 250th Anniversary Events was the long-established history and heritage of ITU, as well as the value of being an ITU member and what “ITU Family” means. The ITU 250th Anniversary Collection has emerged as one of these efforts.”

The collection includes 28 precious works under 7 main headings: History of ITU from 1773 to 2023, Select Works of ITU’s Development Period, Memories from Mühendishane to ITU, Memory from Mühendishane to ITU, Symposium Book, ITU Members Who Lead Science, ITU Rare Works.

“İTÜ 250th Anniversary Collection” tells the historical adventure of ITU, from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic and then to the present, with facsimile editions, biographies, monographs, trailblazers, and trailblazing projects.
