Support for Our Faculty Member under the ERC 2024 Proof of Concept Call
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Atalay, our faculty member at the Department of Textile Engineering and recipient of an ERC Starting Grant, became the only researcher from our country to be awarded support under the ERC 2024 Proof of Concept call with his project titled "TexSoRVA: Textile-Based Soft Robotics for Virtual Reality Applications."

Faculty members at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) continue to win prestigious project supports with their scientific research. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Atalay, a faculty member of the Department of Textile Engineering and ERC Starting Grant recipient, was granted support under the second cut-off date of the ERC-2024-PoC call. Thus, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atalay became the only researcher from our country to receive support under the ERC 2024 Proof of Concept call.
More Interactive Experience in the VR World with TexSoRVA
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Atalay became the only researcher from our country to be awarded support under the ERC 2024 Proof of Concept call with his project titled "TexSoRVA: Textile-Based Soft Robotics for Virtual Reality Applications." With this project, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atalay aims to develop an innovative technology called TexSoRVA to make virtual reality (VR) experiences more realistic.
Designed as a wearable robotic glove, TexSoRVA aims to provide a more interactive experience in the VR world by tracking user movements and providing haptic feedback. Additionally, TexSoRVA is planned to be used in various fields such as physical therapy and sports. The device aims to perform all necessary functions with a thin and flexible design instead of traditional large and bulky components.
We congratulate our faculty member and wish him continued success.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atalay's PoC Project was supported under TÜBİTAK ERC Principal Investigator Development Program - EBAG during its preparation phase.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Atalay's project, Textile-Based Wearable Soft Robotic Systems with Sensing, Actuation, and Self-Powering Capabilities - TEXWEAROTS which is still ongoing at ITU, was previously supported under the ERC-2021-StG call. The TEXWEAROTS Project aims to produce textile-based robotic structures by combining textile technology with robotics science, and these structures are intended to be used in the treatment of individuals with muscle weakness.
