The King Charles III Coronation Medal to Our Graduate

Prof. Dr. Burak Kantarcı, a graduate of ITU Computer Engineering Department, was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal for his qualified work and innovations that contributed to Canada's progress in research and technology.

Prof. Dr. Burak Kantarcı, Istanbul Technical University graduate of the Department of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Computer and Informatics Engineering, was awarded the "King Charles III Coronation Medal" for his contributions to Canada and his valuable work and achievements that increased Canada's reputation abroad.

The "King Charles III Coronation Medal," awarded to Prof. Dr. Kantarcı, who was nominated by the University of Ottawa, stands as a proud result of the dedicated work carried out by Prof. Dr. Kantarcı and the students working in the research laboratory he directs. This recognition comes from Universities Canada, which selected him among 57 individuals, highlighting his efforts.

About Prof. Dr. Burak Kantarcı

Prof. Dr. Burak Kantarcı graduated from Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Department of Computer Engineering, in 2002.He completed his master's and Ph.D. studies in 2005 and 2009, respectively, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sema Oktuğ, a faculty member at ITU's Faculty of Computer and Informatics. He is currently serving as a professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Ottawa, where he also holds the University Research Chair in Secure Networks for AI-Supported Smart Critical Infrastructures. Additionally, he is the founding director of the Smart Connected Vehicles Innovation Centre (SCVIC), the first academic research laboratory in Canada's largest technology park, and its Next Generation Communication and Computing Networks Laboratory (NEXTCON). He is one of the most highly cited scientists in the fields of telecommunications and networks, with over 300 peer-reviewed publications and nearly 10,000 citations. Among his academic achievements are the 2023 IEEE Communications Society Communications Software Technical Committee Technical Achievement Award and the 2021 Minister’s Award of Excellence given by the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities. His work has been honored with Best Paper Awards at numerous international conferences.
