Recent regulations affecting international students' visa processes in the U.S. have made it difficult for students studying at or admitted to Harvard University to pursue their education. In response, a remarkable initiative has emerged from Türkiye: Istanbul Technical University has announced a special admission process for Harvard students.

“Applications will be finalized within a week”

ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal made the following statement on the matter:

“As Istanbul Technical University, we believe in the universal nature of science and the potential of young minds. To ensure that students studying at Harvard can continue their education uninterrupted, we are opening our research centers, projects, and learning environments to them as well. We are committed to supporting young scientists with our 252 years of academic experience and global achievements in engineering. Harvard students will receive high-quality education in a multicultural environment where they can conduct research freely. Our goal is not just to address an issue of academic disruption but to collaboratively shape the future of science. Based on the decision made by our Senate on June 4, 2025, we have opened our doors to students continuing their studies at Harvard. We will accept applications from Harvard students online and finalize all applications within a week. We invite all Harvard students to ITU. The opportunities we provide at ITU, one of the world's most prestigious universities, are on par with those at Harvard. ITU currently ranks 79th globally in Engineering and Technology, and we are determined to rise even further. Together with our students, we will continue transforming the future through the light of science. Prof. Dr. Mandal also mentioned that students applying from Harvard will have the opportunity to work in ITU’s research centers and participate in ongoing global projects.
