Visit from Academia Sinica to ITU
A delegation from Academia Sinica, led by Prof. Dr. James C. Liao, visited Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and met with ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal and academics. The agenda focused on steps to strengthen collaboration between ITU and Academia Sinica and transform it into a long-term partnership.

The visit to ITU’s Ayazağa Campus on June 16, 2025, hosted a productive meeting. ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. İpek Akın Karadayı, Dean of Research Prof. Dr. İsmail Serdar Özoğuz, and ITU academics met with the Academia Sinica team in the Rectorate Senate Hall.
ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal highlighted ITU’s increasing global responsibility in the scientific community through its research centers, innovation-driven projects, and international collaborations. He emphasized ITU’s interdisciplinary work in fields ranging from artificial intelligence to energy transition, climate change, and sustainable cities.
Noting the strong alignment between Academia Sinica’s scientific priorities and ITU’s research strategies, Prof. Dr. Mandal underscored that this synergy is a strong indicator of the potential for fruitful collaboration. He expressed confidence that the partnership between ITU and Academia Sinica would yield tangible results across academia, technology, societal impact, and global solutions.
The meeting included discussions on creating synergy through exchange programs for doctoral students and project partnerships in artificial intelligence, geosciences, and biotechnology. Ideas were exchanged on fostering trust-based, goal-oriented interactions at the individual level and identifying priority areas to implement short- and medium-term projects.
