ITU alumni Prof. Dr. Sema Soygeniş and Prof. Dr. Murat Soygeniş were deemed worthy of the 2025 International Distinguished Alumni Award by University at Buffalo due to their original professional approaches, work oriented toward public benefit, and their research and academic activities.

For this award program, which has become a tradition at the University at Buffalo, alumni who have achieved professional success and contributed to society are nominated. A selection committee determines the recipients from among the nominees.

The primary reason cited for awarding Prof. Dr. Sema Soygeniş and Prof. Dr. Murat Soygeniş was their contributions to the profession and education of architecture.

It was emphasized that the work of our alumni aims to build bridges between the practical and academic worlds, research, and architectural education. Among the other highlighted points were their professional contributions that serve as a guide for young architects on both local and global scales, and the environmentally conscious, minimalist, and essence-driven qualities that stand out in their architectural projects and works.

Prof. Dr. Sema Soygeniş received her bachelor's degree (1982) and master's degree (1984) from the ITU Faculty of Architecture, another master's degree in Advanced Building Technology from the University at Buffalo in 1986, and her doctoral degree from the ITU Faculty of Architecture in 1995.

Prof. Dr. Murat Soygeniş received his bachelor's degree (1982) from the ITU Faculty of Architecture, his master's degree from the University at Buffalo in 1985, and his doctoral degree from the ITU Faculty of Architecture in 1995.

We congratulate our alumni.
