We commemorated Prof. Dr. Yusuf Yağcı on the Anniversary of His Passing Away
Prof. Dr. Yusuf Yağcı was commemorated with a ceremony held at ITU Ayazağa Campus, SDCC on February 2, 2024, the anniversary of his passing away, with the participation of his loved ones.

aculty of Science and Letters, Department of Chemistry faculty member Prof. Dr. Yusuf Yağcı was commemorated with a ceremony held at ITU Ayazağa Campus, Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center on February 2, 2024, the first anniversary of his passing away, with the participation of his loved ones and students.
“He made unique contributions to science and humanity”
Speaking at the opening of the meaningful program, in which Prof. Dr. Yağcı’s scientific contributions to his field with his studies as well as the valuable memories that left a trace in the memory of his close circle were discussed, our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu emphasized the sense of loyalty of the ITU Family and said the following:
“Professor Yusuf Yağcı used to say, ‘The important thing is not a good start, but the difference between the beginning and the end.’ The ITU Family’s love for Professor Yusuf Yağcı shows that his life is one of the best examples of the difference between the beginning and the end. Professor Yusuf Yağcı danced, played soccer, sang songs; moreover, he made unique contributions to science and humanity. Thus, we will always remember our esteemed Prof. Dr. Yusuf Yağcı not only for his world-renowned works but also for his amiable and cheerful personality.”
After the opening speeches, Prof. Dr. Celâl Şengör, Prof. Dr. Oğuz Okay, Prof. Dr. Suna Timur and Prof. Dr. Nergis Arsu participated in the panel discussion, where memories and experiences as well as information about Prof. Dr. Yağcı’s works and the principles he adopted as an academician were shared with the participants. Following the panel, an exhibition was held in the foyer of Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center, where Prof. Dr. Yusuf Yağcı’s personal belongings, which shed light on his academic and scientific journey, were presented to the visitors.
