Our Rector Met with ITU Members
The conference titled “Situation Assessment in the Science, Technology and Innovation Ecosystem: Challenges, Potentials and Opportunities” was held at ITU Ayazağa Campus, SDCC on September 11, 2024 with the participation of ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal.

The conference titled “Situation Assessment in the Science, Technology and Innovation Ecosystem: Challenges, Potentials and Opportunities,” held on September 11, 2024 with the participation of Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, brought together our academics at ITU Ayazağa Campus, Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center. In the program, which attracted great interest from the participants, our Rector Prof. Dr. Mandal made a comprehensive presentation on ITU’s vision of contributing to the future and development of engineering sciences.
Underlining that taking new steps in our university’s 250-year progress on the path of science and contributing to the national technology initiative is one of the most important institutional goals of ITU, our Rector Prof. Dr. Mandal emphasized in his speech the importance of research to be carried out in order to create scientific and technological output and, more importantly, impact that will contribute to humanity and the social life of the future.
During the program, Prof. Dr. Mandal expressed the need for interdisciplinary solutions to global risks in the science, technology and innovation ecosystem, talked about how these risks can be overcome with science-based approaches, and drew attention to the national and international support and opportunities offered by reputable organizations, especially TÜBİTAK.
Prof. Dr. Mandal also drew attention to our university’s leadership in R&D and technology, its strong alumni network, the innovative steps to be taken by project teams to develop the technologies of the future, and the importance of the national and international achievements of ITU members.
“Creating value together with society”
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Mandal expressed that in the near future, academics may hear the concept of “Goal Orientedness, Achieving Together, Economic and Social Benefit” often and that a change from closed innovation to open innovation is necessary, and stated that ITU’s success in pioneering R&D studies is nourished by its institutional accumulation and ability to realize its potential in the best way. He also referred to the importance of finding and developing alternative and innovative funds and the new calls of the Ministry of Industry and Technology in this respect. The program ended with the part in which ITU academics asked questions to Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal.
