ITU is in Türkiye-Azerbaijan University (TAU) with its Industrial Engineering Department

ITU Department of Industrial Engineering started classes on September 23 with its students at TAU, which acts as an umbrella institution between Türkiye and Azerbaijan and aims to strengthen ties between the two countries through cooperation in the field of higher education

Istanbul Technical University (ITU), as the university of “firsts and bests”, is taking part with its Department of Industrial Engineering in the Türkiye-Azerbaijan University (TAU), which is a first in the world in the field of higher education with its new international model. TAU, which was established as a concrete reflection of the cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan in the field of higher education, has one department each from ITU, METU and Hacettepe University. Azerbaijani students will have a diploma from ITU, METU or Hacettepe University when they graduate.

Opportunity for 30 students to study for ITU diploma

30 of the 86 Azerbaijani students accepted to TAU in the 2024-2025 Academic Year were placed in the ITU Industrial Engineering Department. Classes at TAU, whose campus is in the Khatai Raion of Baku, started on September 23rd. The first year for the students will be spent preparing for English as a foreign language.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal met with TAU students on September 24th and shared their excitement. Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal greeted the students by saying, “I wish TAU students a successful, happy and healthy education life, which will be unforgettable. I would like to state that we will always be by our students’ side and support them,” and Azerbaijani students expressed that they were very excited and happy about the new academic year and that they looked to the future with hope at TAU.

Rector Prof. Dr. Mandal said, “We firmly believe that TAU ​​will be renewed and strengthened every year with young, dynamic, hardworking and devoted students and will also be a source of inspiration for future generations. Our university, which will strengthen the spirit of ‘Two States, One Nation’, aims to shape the future of the two countries by providing our young people with not only academic knowledge but also a common vision. We will continue to work with the approach of developing together and achieving together to increase science-based knowledge production and to further strengthen our trained human resources in the two brother countries.”

Great interest from students in Azerbaijan

University candidates in Azerbaijan showed great interest in TAU, which was established with a memorandum of understanding signed by the President of the Council of Higher Education Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar and Azerbaijani Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev in Ankara on February 19th, 2024 with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President of Azerbaijan İlham Aliyev. While the highest score that can be obtained in the university exam taken by Azerbaijani students is 700, ITU Industrial Engineering Department accepted students with the highest score of 663.7, and the base score was 544.4. It is aimed to increase the diversity of departments and the number of students in the coming years.
